Hey everyone, and welcome back to the blog! Today, I popped into a local charity shop with a bag of donations. Yes, that’s right, I’m back with another unhaul – all paperbacks! So without further ado, let’s begin.
The first book I’m donating is Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis, which I read recently. This is an adult novel and follows Clay, who returns home to Los Angeles for the Christmas holidays from university, where he reunites with old friends. I really disliked this book, giving it one star. I didn’t care for the writing style, finding it self indulgent. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters or anything that happened in the plot. I was very bored, so I decided to unhaul this, and hope that someone else will enjoy its cult status.
The second book on this unhaul is The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis. This is an adult contemporary novel set on a New England college campus. This follows Lauren, a girl who enjoys the company of men. Lauren soon finds herself in a love triangle between bisexual Paul, and cynical Sean. This is a book I am donating which is unread. I sampled the first ten pages, and once again, I didn’t like the writing style. It was very off putting and if I can’t get past that, I’m not holding out hope for the novel…
The penultimate book I’m donating is Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis. This is another adult contemporary novel. This follows Victor, a male model. Living with another model, having an affair with another, Victor has it all, but now life is going to move on… This is another book I am donating which is unread. I didn’t like the synopsis of this, and once again, I didn’t like the first ten pages. It was a lot of confusing dialogue, but I hope someone else enjoys it.
The final book in this unhaul is Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis. This is another adult contemporary novel, following an author whose life is turned upside down through a series of events. The synopsis is very brief, and does sound a little autobiographical, and once again, self indulgent. I honestly don’t know too much about this, and I found I wasn’t bothered about it, hence why I’m removing it from my shelves.
You can probably see a theme here. Yes, these are all Bret Easton Ellis books. They were all bought from The Works a long while ago for 99p or £1.99 when I needed American Psycho for a university class. I thought I would enjoy these and could have a collection, but I was wrong. I don’t feel guilty unhauling these at all as I’m a different person now. They were bought as a bundle, and now I realise that it was a mistake.
So that completes my fourth unhaul! Let me know what book/books you have unhauled lately, and if you have any recommendations, please feel free to let me know!
